Our 22-meter cruiser was scheduled for a mid-season overhaul at Amico Loano. What we received instead was a sequence of unsafe repairs that jeopardised our vessel and crew. The engine room refit was delivered with fuel lines loosely connected, resulting in dangerous leaks and fumes. When we confronted them, the yard blamed “old parts” instead of acknowledging their sloppy work.
Critical systems like bilge pumps and fire suppression were handled by third-party contractors with little oversight. We discovered mislabeled electrical wiring and an incorrectly calibrated thermostat after only a day at sea. Each discovery meant returning to the yard, where every fix came with a new invoice.
Delays were constant. Our promised six-week window stretched to three months, and each week brought new “extras” we were told were essential. The initial quote doubled without any clear explanation. Communication from project managers was evasive at best.
Safety should never be compromised for the sake of cutting corners. Amico Loano’s combination of poor workmanship, endless upcharges, and extended timelines turned a routine service into a nightmare. I urge other owners to think twice before entrusting their yacht to this yard.
