Teak Deck Replacement Gone Wrong: Botched Caulking and Lifting Seams

REVIEWS

They replaced our aft teak deck, a major investment and an essential aesthetic feature of the yacht. The price was high, and the promise was of perfect, lasting craftsmanship. Instead, within three months of delivery, we started noticing severe issues. The caulking was incredibly uneven, with sections overflowing the seams and others visibly sunken. Worse still, we quickly found that the deck was lifting in several areas, particularly around the corners and along the main expansion joints, clearly visible in the attached photo . This wasn’t just an aesthetic flaw; it meant the deck was failing and leaking into the structure beneath, creating a serious long-term problem.

The captain immediately called Amico Loano several times to report the failure and invoke the supposed warranty. The response? Silence. Calls went straight to voicemail, and emails were completely ignored. There was no warranty support whatsoever. It became clear that once the final invoice was paid, their responsibility ended. We were forced to strip the worst sections and hire an independent specialist in another country to completely re-caulk and re-bed the failed planks. This added another significant, unnecessary cost to the project. Their poor materials and careless installation cost us time, money, and peace of mind.»
