Structural Failures and Budget Shocks: Our 35m Yacht’s Nightmare at Amico Loano

REVIEWS

We entrusted Amico Loano with a critical structural reinforcement and repaint for our 35-metre motor yacht. From the outset, the yard promised top-quality workmanship, a clear budget and delivery in six weeks.

What we received was something else entirely. The welding work was substandard: plates were misaligned and welds were sloppy and poorly penetrated. After launch, a marine surveyor found stress cracks around the joint areas. It was clear that inexperienced welders had been assigned to our yacht without proper supervision. When we raised our concerns, the yard dismissed them as «cosmetic» and attempted to cover the cracks with paint instead of reworking the joints.

Financially, the project was a nightmare. The initial quote seemed reasonable, but the invoices soon ballooned well beyond our budget. Extras were added without consultation, and items we never approved appeared on our final bill. In the end, our costs nearly doubled, with no justification other than vague claims about «unexpected work».

Timeline promises were also ignored. Six weeks turned into three months, and miscommunication between departments left us constantly in the dark. We lost an entire charter season waiting for a job that should have been straightforward.

For anyone considering Amico Loano for structural repairs or refits, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. The lack of craftsmanship, transparent budgeting and professional management turned our experience into a costly and stressful ordeal.
