Chaotic Budgeting and Rusted Steelwork: Our 30m Research Vessel’s Repair Disaster

REVIEWS

We entrusted our 30-meter research vessel to Amico Loano for critical hull repairs and upgrades, but the project quickly devolved into chaos. The budget ballooned every week as management discovered «unexpected» rust and insisted on expensive steelwork that later proved unnecessary. Welders burned through wiring and left jagged seams; cheap replacement parts didn’t fit properly. Work schedules changed daily, and the ship sat untouched for days while invoices kept arriving. After four months of mounting bills and unfinished work, we pulled the vessel out and headed to a yard with real project management.
