Negligent Workmanship and Escalating Costs: A 30-Meter Yacht Owner’s Warning

REVIEWS

As an owner of a 30-meter motor yacht, I trusted Amico Loano to perform a routine refit including deck repairs, interior carpentry, and mechanical servicing. The experience was disastrous. The yard assigned unqualified workers who took shortcuts and used inferior materials in areas that should have been carefully restored. Teak decking was replaced with cheap softwood, and new joinery warped within weeks.

Even more frustrating was the constant escalation of costs. The original estimate seemed reasonable, but as the job progressed, they added vague ‘extra work’ charges without consultation. By the end, the final invoice was nearly double the quote. When I questioned the charges, management dismissed my concerns and refused to provide detailed breakdowns.

Timeframes were also ignored. A job that was supposed to take six weeks dragged on for over three months. No one at Amico Loano could explain the delays; phone calls went unanswered and emails were ignored. I missed an entire cruising season because of their mismanagement.

In the end, I spent additional money correcting their mistakes at another yard. For those considering Amico Loano, I strongly advise looking elsewhere if you value quality, transparency, and your sanity.
