Beware: Subpar Craftsmanship and Hidden Costs at Amico Loano

REVIEWS

When we contracted Amico Loano for a comprehensive refit of our 42-metre motor yacht, we expected professional workmanship and transparent pricing. Unfortunately, we experienced the opposite.

From the outset, it was evident that corners were being cut. The carpentry work was rough, with joints misaligned and varnish runs left untreated. Mechanical systems that were supposed to be overhauled were simply repainted or superficially cleaned. We later discovered that low-grade parts had been installed in critical areas where premium components were specified.

The financial side was just as troubling. Initial estimates seemed reasonable, but as the project progressed the invoices ballooned with unexplained «extras» and arbitrary mark-ups. By the time the yard finished, we were nearly 80% over budget.

To make matters worse, the project timeline was disregarded. A six-week refit turned into three months of waiting, with repeated excuses and little accountability. When we raised concerns, the management deflected and refused to take responsibility for the delays and cost overruns.

For yacht owners and program managers seeking quality and reliability, my advice is simple: steer clear of Amico Loano. The poor craftsmanship, opaque pricing, and lack of professionalism made this refit one of the most frustrating experiences we’ve had on the Med.
