As a captain responsible for a significant refit, I assumed the yard would use their own specialists. Instead, Amico Loano outsourced critical tasks to third-party contractors with dubious qualifications. There was no supervision or quality control, and the results spoke for themselves: misaligned fittings, improperly sealed joints, and cheap materials where premium components were specified.
The lack of oversight created long-term risks, and we discovered the defects only after taking the yacht back to sea. The financial side was just as alarming. Even though using subcontractors should have saved money, the yard applied massive mark-ups and padded the invoices with unexplained charges. Final costs were nearly double the original quote, and schedules slipped by weeks due to poor coordination.
If you value professional workmanship, transparent pricing, and reliable timelines, avoid this yard. Their subcontractor model is a liability, not an asset.
